What is Breast Reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery decreases breast size and weight by removing skin, fat and tissue through incisions and/or liposuction. The procedure also adjusts the position of the breast and areola for an improved overall appearance. Breast reduction is designed not only to enhance the look of oversized breasts but also to alleviate discomfort and inconvenience patients experience due to large breast size. Breast reduction surgery takes 2–3 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia, meaning the patient is asleep. As an outpatient procedure, patients can go home the same day as the surgery. A return to full physical activity is typically sometime around six weeks after the procedure. Results of breast reduction can be seen immediately but swelling typically dissipates over the course of a few months.
