What is a Tummy Tuck?

Skin, muscles and extra tissue along the abdomen can loosen after you have experienced significant weight loss and/or a pregnancy, or simply the natural aging process. A tummy tuck, technically known as an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal area as well as tightens muscles that have become lax.

The surgery effectively reduces excess abdominal skin and fat, stretch marks, and muscle laxity. It can also help to strengthen weakened abdominal muscles and core flexibility.

During + After your Surgery

General Anaesthesia (patients are asleep)

Patients go home the same day
This can be a painful surgery. Time off from work can range from 1-4 weeks, but most commonly 2 weeks. Patients are advised to wear an abdominal binder for up to 6 weeks after surgery to reduce swelling, support their stomach muscles, and achieve the best possible results.
Pain killers are often given as well as antibiotics.
Generally at 3 months the scar lightens. Expect normal skin colour usually by 1 year.
